Description of Project:
We will participate in a Flat Stanley collaborative project. Who is Flat Stanley? In the 1964 book, Flat Stanley Adventure, by James Brown, Stanley is "made flat" when a heavy bulletin board falls on him. He is able to visit friends because he can be folded and placed in an envelope to be mailed. The Official Flat Stanley Website is located at http://www.flatstanley.com.
In our variation of this collaborative project, each individual in the class will act as a "class that is participating in the project." Flat Stanley will visit with you (and your classroom if you so choose) so Flat Stanley will be able to "see the sights" in the mid-Atlantic area. The collaboration will be the sharing of Flat Stanley's individual visits through a Website.
You will receive an electronic Flat Stanley that you can 'groom' and 'dress' and take to fun and interesting places. Two variations are available (see attached files), one to print and color with crayons. The other to electronically color in PhotoShop Elements (or any photo manipulation software) and print. Be sure to take pictures because Flat Stanley would like to have a record of his visit, and the class will create a wiki to document all the places Flat Stanley went.

Skills Learned and or Expanded Upon:
Upon completion of the Flat Stanley assignment I feel that I have learned a lot. I have learned how to manipulate and adjust pictures so that they are web ready, how to work more effectively with wikispaces, and I have become much more comfortable with working with audacity. Along with these skills I have also become much more knowledgeable with uploading and embedding files, pictures, and audio files into a wikispace.

Reflection:
I feel that I really gained a lot through the completion of this project. First thing that I learned was that Flat Stanley is well known by many children. Although going out and taking pictures of Flat Stanley visiting the firehouse was fun I feel that I learned more from the development of the wiki. By completing this assignment I really learned some ways that I could include the use of a wikispace in my own classroom. I could use it as a guide for my courses that I currently teach. I could have this available for my parents and students to always have access to so that they may view what their students will be learning, a grading policy, important dates and even daily homework assignments. I could also use wikispaces to have my students complete and display a project just as we did in this class. I really think that I am finding that the more I work with wikispaces the more comfortable I am getting with them and my abilities to produce an effective wiki.
